News reaching us states that a security detail attached to Gov. Rochas Okorocha today, shot dead one young man by the name Chukwudi. We were reliably informed that it all started when Gov. Okorocha visited Ejemekwuru community in Agwa Oguta LGA in Imo State to campaign for his senatorial aspiration and to present electric transformers to the community. The community have has been without electricity over the past four years. It all happened that during the ceremony, the youths of the community blatantly rejected the electric transformers for the reason that the blamed the governor for the perennial darkness in the community. We gathered that the youths started to make noise and to disrupt the ceremony when a security detail attached to the governor probably in a bid to disperse the restive youths, opened fire at them thereby killing one of them. Eye witnesses stated that the governor entered his vehicle and left in a hurry soon after the incident.
An angry youth who doesn’t want his name on print stated that Gov. Okorocha had in 2015 during his re-election campaign promised to be paying the monthly electricity bill for the community to the tune of N4million if the community supported his re-election. He said that soon after he was re-elected the governor reneged on that promise. He stressed that although N4million was monthly withdrawn from the account of Imo State Oil Producing Areas commission (ISOPADEC), the money was never paid to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), but went in to private pockets. So he said it was for that reason the youths rejected the governor’s electric transformers which they felt was another ruse by the governor to secure their votes again and dump them thereafter. He also explained that the youths were not aggressive at all and wondered why the governor would order his security details to shoot at unarmed citizens of Nigeria.
Presently, the entire Ejemekwuru community have been thrown in to mourning as angry youths were seen with leaves singing war songs in demonstration of there disapproval of the governor’s action. It is believed that this event may have dampened the chances of Gov.Okorocha and his son-in-law Hon. Uche Nwosu from winning votes from that area. Gov. Okorocha is aspiring to represent Orlu zone at the Senate on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), while Hon. Nwosu is aspiring to be Governor on the platform of Action Alliance (AA).
