To me, the popular adage that “politics is not arithmetics” is fallacious. This is so because one may agree with the adage when the politics is played in a clime where corruption thrives. However, in a place where Democracy, Due Process and Rule of Law are acceptable norms, politics should indeed be arithmetic. It is easy to fathom where the political pendulum is swinging to all the time, when public opinion is sampled. When one analyzes the political history of Imo State from 2007 to 2019, it is crystal clear to the intelligent and discerning mind that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Nkem Ihedioha rightly won the 2015 and 2019 guber elections.
The emergence of Rochas Okorocha as Governor of Imo State in 2011 was a political accident and a fait accompli, based on the sudden unpopularity of the then Gov Ikedi Ohakim. Imo people being driven by sentiments created by the mismanagement of Ohakim’s Clean and Green Programme which saw to the demolishing of people’s business without due compensation, turned their back against him. This led to Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha, a former kerosene dealer whose business was also heavily impacted by the Clean and Green demolition, spearheading civil agitation for Ohakim’s exit. The rest as we say is now history.
Unfortunately for the people of Imo, Rochas Okorocha became the beneficiary of that political coup as he emerged Governor against the widely accepted Imo Charter of Equity which stipulated the zoning of political offices to accommodate the three Senatorial Districts. Orlu zone where Okorocha hails from, had 8 unbroken years through Achike Udenwa who preceeded Ohakim as Governor. However, Imo people temporarily set aside that Charter to allow Okorocha ease out Ohakim, then serve a single term of 4 years before handing power back to Owerri, which is the next zone due to hold the position. Characteristically, Okorocha became a turncoat and plotted to extend his tenure beyond 4 years.
Nevertheless, the bubble burst when the people of Imo State realized few years in to Okorocha’s first term that they had jumped from frying pan to fire, when it became clear that Okorocha had turned the Government in to a family business. In addition, his maverick informal style of governance and penchant for executing substandard projects, further compounded his woes. As a result Imo people cast a protest vote in 2015 which actually saw to Gov Ihedioha winning that election at that time. However, it was reported that Okorocha had already conceeded defeat and had started packing out of the Government House, when his son-in-law Uche Nwosu, took up the challenge and using billions of Imo taxpayers money, bought Okorocha’s second term in office.
Sadly too, Gov Ihedioha’s effort to reclaim his mandate through the Court of Law was also aborted based on certain unexpected “technical” mistakes made by his legal team. However as the say, “although the mills of justice grinds slowly, yet it grinds surely”. Exactly 4 years after he was unjustly robbed of his victory, Gov Ihedioha was again elected Governor of Imo a “second time”. When they realized that Okorocha had other plans to rule Imo State for the next 20 years through his son-in-law and his own son, Imo people resolved to protect their votes in 2019. They stood their ground, in the face of brazen State sponsored thuggery and arbitrary use of security agencies to ensure that the mandate was not “bought over a second time”. That was how Rt. Hon. Ihedioha emerged Governor in 2019.
There is a God factor in every aspect of life. Every Christian and indeed non-Christians have come to accept the fact that power belongs to God, and He gives it to whosoever He wills. The fact that Gov Ihedioha was able to reclaim his mandate stolen in 2015 in 2019, is a clear sign that he has Divine approval. Infact, Gov Ihedioha’s political history has the imprimatur of Divinity all over it. Having started with a humble political begining as an aide to former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku, he quickly rose to be elected a 3 time member, Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the House of Representatives, and now Governor. It can only be God…
As the Imo Governorship Elections Tribunal decides today, there is no doubt that all the physical and spiritual indices point to the fact that Gov. Ihedioha is the Chosen One. Ihedioha won in 2015 and was robbed, now he has reclaimed his mandate no man can take it from him. For God’s gift is without repentance. NKE YA AGA GHI AKO YA…!!!
