The Imo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja today at the FCT High Court Abuja, declared Rt. Hon. Emeka Nkem Ihedioha duly elected as the Executive Governor of Imo State in the March 9, 2019 guber elections.
The Tribunal arrived at the decision after 5 months of hearing various petitions filed by other candidates in the election: Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA) and Sen. Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Having considered the cases brought before it by the above mentioned parties, they Tribunal found their petitions lacking in merit and dismissed same accordingly.
Gov Ihedioha by virtue of his victory, has set a new record as the first Imo Governor to defeat 3 other contestants at the Tribunal in one single day.
At the time of filing this report, it is yet unknown whether all or any of the defeated candidates would proceed to the Court of Appeal. While that still remains in the realm of speculation, the city of Owerri and indeed the entire Imo State is agog with celebration of the Governor’s victory. It is expected that the Governor will address the citizens in no long a time.
A joyful citizen who was so excited to disclose his name, when asked the reason for his celebration said, ” this is a victory over the forces of darkness by the forces of light. It is a victory for the Imo people who are so happy that the light has eventually come back to the State…”
