The Imo State Government plan, policy and progamme for better safety and security to lives and property in the State has been activated. It’s code named “Operation Iron Gate”. It entails the dispatch to critical and strategic areas of the State, particularly in and around Owerri the capital, of the combined security operatives from the armed forces, the police and other relevant security agencies and paramilitary outfits.
The safety and security progamme has already begun to pay off as a number dangerous criminals have been arrested in the recent days. The arrests are new every morning. The latest as the time of writing this report was the arrest two young men, one named Chimaobi Uzoma, one named Anayo Esomibe, both from Agwa community in Oguta LGA.
The two-man gang was smashed and the gang members arrested by police operatives from the Owerri Area Command in the morning of Saturday, October 5, 2019 on Douglas Road, Owerri as they were robbing a female student of Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). Both of them are in police net, helping the police in the investigation of their crime.
Within the past one week, few days after the expanded meeting of the security chiefs in Imo State and their respective ranks, with the governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha CON, KSC, FNIFST on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the Government House, Owerri, the level of security in the State has witnessed a tremendous increase that has attracted tremendous praises from well-meaning Imolites.
It’s such that the criminals that murdered Bruno Uchechukwu, the Personal Assistant to Hon. Jasper Ndubuaka, the Chairman of the Committee on Recovery of Moveable Property Belonging to the Government of Imo State, were arrested and are now in police detention.
In a statement by the police, dated October 2, 2019, signed by Orlando Ikeokwu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Imo State Police Command, and availed by Hon. Ray Nkemdirim, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, it was stated that two suspected killers are Leonard Dennis a.k.a “Toothpick”, aged 22 and Mac Reginald Nnacheta a.k.a “Experience”, aged 29, who were arrested in connection with the murder of one Bruno Uchechukwu, aged 32.
“On 29/09/2019 at about 0345hrs at No. 13 School Road Umuororonjo Owerri Municipal, SARS Operatives arrested the above mentioned suspects who are members of NEW BLACK MOVEMENT OF AFRICA aka AYES Confraternity, on interrogation the suspects confessed to be Killers of one Bruno Uchechukwu ‘m’ 32 years old at Cherubem Junction Wetheral Road on the above date. The deceased who hailed from Atta Ikeduru but resident at No. 32 Elekwerenwa Street Owerri, was until his death a Personal Assistant to the State Movable Assets Recovery Committee Chairman Hon. Jasper Ndubuaka, the second suspect Mac Reginald Nnacheta personally initiated Cultist who murdered the deceased.
As I stated in an earlier essay, let me repeat here: “Among the arrests by the police, that of the killers of Bruno Uchechukwu is more spectacular. This is because he was a government official in his own capacity and his murder had every insignia and imprimatur of certain self-declared enemies of Imo State and Imo people.
“Also, the excitement about that arrest is the promptness by the police in doing the needful. Bruno Uchechukwu was murdered about one week before his suspected assassins were rounded up. This is a fresh statement and indication of the readiness of Imo Police to make the State a no-go area for criminal of any sort,” the statement stressed.
It’s really good to note that in the spirit of the recently activated “Operation Iron Gate” safety and security progamme, some security patrol vehicles and the security operatives manning them have begun mounting 24/7 sentry at and patrolling along and around Douglas Road and Mbaise Road through Fire Service and Ama JK in the heart of Owerri City where they are stationed.
Before the riot act was read by Gov. Ihedioha for the City of Owerri and indeed the entire Imo State to be rid of criminals, so many reports were made about the nefarious activities of hoodlums and criminal elements on Douglas Road, Mbaise Road, Fire Service, Ama JK, World Bank, Port Harcourt Road, and areas along Wetheral Road, Egbu, Amakaohia, Akwakuma and such other places in and around Owerri City. Truly, it was too embarrassing!
Mention must be made of the proactive roles of Hon. Ray Nkemdirim, Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, himself an award-winning security technocrat and professional of the stock of the State Security Service (SSS). He sleeps and wakes with the methods of dry cleaning the city of Owerri, and townships of Okigwe and Orlu of hooligans, hoodlums and criminal elements. He has so far justified his appointment into the RebuildImo administration.
With the multiple arrests going on now in and around Douglas Road, Mbaise Road, Fire Service and other red flag crime flash points in Owerri, there’s every reason for residents of Owerri and even entire Imo people to render their unalloyed support for the new security apparatchik, while applauding and commending Gov. Ihedioha with his security team for being on top of the security situation of Imo State, in his capacity as the Chief Security Officer.
The good news and happy development affords Imo people another reason to be patient with the Government. With patience all things are possible! There’s time for everything. There’s nothing Imo people expect from Gov. Ihedioha that won’t manifest at the right time. Soon and very soon, we are going to see an unleashing of massive development infrastructure projects across the State. The glory shall be to God!
By God’s grace, Imo State must be rebuilt!
